Your car goes through a lot, especially living in Arizona. It stands bravely against everything from monsoons and haboobs to scorching sun and sandy winds. Show it a little love this October by protecting the paint. Autoblog shows us how to do it properly with tools you either have at home or can easily purchase at our service center. Let’s check it out!
Larry from Autoblog begins with compounding the paint into a clean car. This means pushing car polish into the paint and then removing it with a clean microfiber towel. Their magic formula for removing the polish after rubbing it into the paint is a solution of 50 percent alcohol and 50 percent water—make sure to wear gloves while applying it to your car to reduce risk of injury and strong odor. It’s important to remove all excess polish, as leaving it on can reduce the protection. They indicate that you can also remove the polish by washing the car with dish soap—a great alternative that happens to be in your kitchen cabinet.
Once the car is clean and oil-free, apply a primer via foam applicator pad. This should be done at room temperature and with straight and cross-hatch movements. When it’s dry, you can remove it with a clean microfiber towel and then go back for round two (polish and repeat). Let the second coat set for several hours or even overnight. When this is completed, you have the green light to apply the sealant to the paint. Make sure you don’t get any on the black plastic parts, but if you do, be sure to wipe it off immediately.
