Review & Compare the 2019 Jeep Renegade at Larry H. Miller Chrysler Jeep Avondale

The Excitement Around the New Jeep Renegade

By being more affordable, designed differently, and having more interior and optional features, the 2019 Jeep Renegade is speaking to a new generation of driver. It still has everything you would expect from a Jeep brand vehicle - dependability, capability, and versatility- but manages to somehow set itself apart from the pack.

The Renegade faces fierce competition, being in a segment that nearly every manufacturer has a model in. It has pit itself against heavy-hitters like the Subaru Crosstrek, Mazda CX-3, and Honda HR-V just to name a few - and there are many more that can be named. What none of these vehicles can offer is the legendary four-wheel status that Jeep imparts on every one of their vehicles, making it especially appealing to younger drivers.

While a subcompact crossover can find a home with an established family and their children, it can also find a home on college campuses and high school parking lots by offering feature that are timeless and aren't defined by the age of the driver. The adaptability of this segment is one of the reasons it is growing faster than ever, and the Jeep Renegade will only quicken the process.

What's New for 2019?

The Jeep Renegade started its journey in 2014 with a model year of 2015 and has been taking the market by storm ever since.

A new model year brings many changes to the Renegade, mainly to the exterior. A new front fascia, new wheel designs that span up to 19 inches, and new body colors are just the beginning of what you can expect. All of these updates help make it more aerodynamic and stylish, two things that every driver should be interested in.

There are four trims to choose from for the 2019 Jeep Renegade: Sport, Latitude, Limited, and Trailhawk. The last is what really helps set the Renegade apart from the rest of the class, but we'll get to that in a little bit.

You also now get more from the available LED Lighting Group. The package LED light displays for the headlights, daytime running lights, cornering fog lights, and tail lights for increased visibility and safety.

Exterior colors now include Sting Grey, Colorado Red, Omaha Orange, Slate Blue Pearl, Bikini, Granite Crystal, Jetset Blue Metallic, Glacier Metallic, Black, and Alpine White. We - just as you probably are - are also eagerly awaiting what "Bikini" looks like in a color.

What is so Special About the Trailhawk?

As the highest-tier trim you might be curious what it includes. We think it is summed up pretty well with an award: best-in-class off-road capability. Coming from the Jeep brand this might have been what you expected (especially since subcompact crossovers aren't generally known for off-roading), and the Trailhawk helps make it all possible.

While the Sport, Latitude, and Limited trims all come with Jeep Active Drive 4x4 as optional, the Trailhawk comes standard with a more advanced Trail Rated Active Drive 4x4 system. It also has more ground clearance, skid plates, tow hooks capable of towing up to 2,000 pounds, and can make it through 19-inches of water. This is probably the only subcompact crossover that you will find with water fording capabilities, but, what can we say, it's a Jeep.

Enjoying Nature and the City

The 2019 Renegade allows you to be ready to enjoy any of the beautiful scenery that you can find tucked away in nature away from highways. The available Jeep-exclusive MySky sunroof has removable panels to give you the most open experience possible while sitting in the cloth or available leather seats.

If you prefer the cityscape you will appreciate the inclusion of Lane Sense Departure Warning-Plus and Intelligent Speed Assist with Traffic Sign Recognition that come standard. Upgrading to some of the higher trim levels will also find Forward Collision Warning-Plus with Active Emergency Braking as standard.

The upholstery names are colorful and exciting, just like every experience behind the wheel should be with included options of Black Sandstorm, Trespass Black, Black leather, Polar Plunge, Polar Plunge leather, and Trailhawk Black. Select upholstery can also include Metal Diamond accents, Grillz accents, and Ruby Red accents.

Power and Performance

Standard on every model is a 2.4-liter MultiAir four-cylinder engine that makes 180 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission, noting the end of the manual transmission for the Renegade.

If you are looking for turbocharged excitement, then you will want the all-new 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. This engine comes with available start-stop technology and is also paired to a nine-speed transmission but makes 177 horsepower and 200 pound-feet of torque. You'll be getting an even more aerodynamic experience If you include the active grille shutters.

Does the 2019 Jeep Renegade Make a Mark in the Sea of Subcompacts?

It brings the ruggedness of Jeep into a category that hasn't been graced by the manufacturer just yet. Parents, students, and (light) adventurers alike will be happy while they are behind the wheel of this vehicle. The updates make it more welcoming to a wider market, and we are excited to see what else the Renegade will have in store for us in the future.
